A Night That Made My House Feel Like Home

A few nights ago, I hosted a friend and his little family, and it turned out to be one of those evenings that quietly reminds you why you love having people over. For someone who thrives in solitude, my usually quiet house suddenly felt like home-home. The kind of home where even the kitchen seems alive the air carrying a comforting mix of familiar smells, like I’d somehow activated a village charm.

His wife, bless her, has told him four times now to call and thank me. By the fourth reminder, I was ready to throw in the towel abeg, can a man get some peace? 😂 But honestly, it’s a little flattering too, knowing that my small gesture mattered so much.

And then there was the moment that truly stole the night: their little boy, proudly refusing to take off the oversized sweater I gave him. The thing is practically a blanket on this tiny human, and yet, there he was, determined to wear it like a badge of honor. I couldn’t help but laugh.

It was in that moment I realized something: hosting isn’t just about giving it’s about receiving too. Receiving laughter, chaos, and warmth that quietly fills a house and leaves a homey mark on your heart. And just like that, I had officially leveled up to “cool uncle.”
